Socio-psychological novel "Do the oxen roar when the manger is full". Written by Panas Mirny and his brother. It tells about the complicated life of the main character Chipka Varennichenko. The work depicts human life in complex forms of the life process and the struggle of the Ukrainian peasantry against social oppression, in particular serfdom, on the eve and during the 1861 reform. The events take place in the village of Pisky. Chipka is a simple guy from the village. A novel about his evolution and later degradation as a person. The events in the work are depicted over a long period of time and cover many historical events.
