Preparing layouts for photo books and photo magazines requires meeting certain requirements before sending them to print; here are the main layout requirements.
To ensure your photo magazine or photo book looks high-quality, follow the recommendations in “How to Prepare a Layout for a Photo Magazine or Photo Book.” Learn more.
- Basic Requirements
- The interior must be submitted in PDF format, page by page (not as spreads).
- If the layout is prepared only as spreads, we can split it into individual pages (service cost: 150 UAH).
- The cover is accepted in PDF / PNG / JPG formats (we recommend using PNG).
- Multi-page layouts should be sent as a single file with the correct page order.
- The number of pages must be even. - Formats and sizes
- A4 is the most common format for photo magazines and photo books; A5 and B5 are less frequently ordered.
- If the layout has non-standard proportions, we can help you choose the optimal format or perform correct scaling. - Recommended margins
- For photo magazines, we recommend an inner margin of 15 mm from the spine and outer margins of at least 10 mm.
These margins ensure that text and important elements remain in the safe zone and do not fall within the trim area or binding area. - Technical specifications for printing photo magazines
- Color model: CMYK.
- Recommended resolution: 300 dpi.
- Maximum file size: up to 1000 MB.
- The layout must be prepared without crop marks, watermarks, comments, or unnecessary elements.
- It is recommended to convert fonts to curves.
To avoid potential printing issues, we recommend avoiding complex effects, shadows, and transparency. - Cover
You can order a photo book or photo magazine with a choice of cover types: softcover and hardcover.
- Softcover — a lighter and more flexible option, suitable for daily use and lower in cost.
- Hardcover — denser and more durable, provides a presentable look and better protects the photo magazine. - Lamination
- Glossy — the standard option (default).
- Matte — +15 UAH per copy.
For best results, we recommend avoiding overly dark and dense fills. - Important details
- Allow 3–5 mm for trimming.
- A technical margin of error for printing and trimming is 1–2 mm.
When laying out the page, take into account the bleed and spine area to avoid losing important elements. - Additional Services
