Recommendations for preparing a layout for printing

1. General requirements. 

We only accept ready-made layouts for printing..

File formats:

• Pages — PDF (page by page, not spreads). For you, this means that one page of text (not spreads) will be placed on one page of the layout. However, if you only have a layout in spreads, we can still help you. The separation service costs 150 hryvnia.
  Cover — PDF, JPG, PNG, TIFF. (PNG or TIFF is best)
  It is best to submit the layout in the size that will be in the finished product (changing the size by more than one format is undesirable), we can scale it, but this may result in stretching/compressing images or text. (See 2. Page formats and sizes)
  The number of pages in the layout must be even so that all pages in the copy are printed. We assemble the brochure with a metal staple. In this case, the number of pages must be a multiple of 4, not counting the cover and flyleaf. If the number of pages is not a multiple of 4, there will be blank pages at the end, because they are printed in pairs on whole sheets and then folded in half.
  Multi-page layouts are only accepted in a single multi-page file with the pages in sequence.

2. Page formats and sizes

Other sizes - upon agreement with the manager.

MARGINS. Recommended margins from the edges:

• Books — 20 mm (inner), 15 mm (outer).
• Magazines — 15 mm (inner), 10 mm (outer)
• Under the spring — at least 15 mm (inner), 10 mm (outer)

If the layout has different aspect ratios that do not match the formats presented on the website, the layout can be scaled to the dimensions of the selected format. If scaling is not suitable for your layout, select Original size.

3. Approximate page limit (depends on the paper selected).

Thick books are divided into volumes (90 UAH/volume).

4. Technical parameters of the layout

• The color space for the cover and body of the document must be CMYK. Other color spaces may result in a different shade of the printed product and differ from the color in the layout.Resolution: 300 dpi (600 dpi is optimal).
• File size: up to 1000 MB.
• Layout without crop marks. All layouts must be without crop marks. There is no need to add special marks with a white field for alignment and trimming, as they will be added later.
• Layouts should not contain pages and objects that will not be printed (watermarks, comments, notes, logos, advertising inserts, etc.).
• It is not recommended to use transparency, shadows, effects, complex lenses, and frames around the edges.
• We recommend combining multi-layered layouts/illustrations into a single layer so that they do not suddenly disappear during processing.
• If the layout contains special fonts, the fonts must be converted to curves for the file to be processed correctly.

5. Additional cover requirements

• Text/important elements on the cover should be positioned at least 10-15 mm from the edges of the book.
• Text can be printed on the spine if the block is at least 10 mm thick.
• Spine margins:
  10–15 mm at the top and bottom
  at least 2 mm to the right and left of the text
• Lamination:
  Glossy — default. Practical, shiny, leaves almost no scratches or marks.
  Matte — +15 UAH/per book. Stylish, attractive, but less practical, scratches or marks are more noticeable.
• We do not recommend making very dark, dense covers, as they may not adhere as well to the lamination as light-colored covers.

6. Additional services

• Dividing the layout from spreads into pages — 150 UAH.
• Printing on the flyleaf — 150 UAH + 20 UAH/copy. If the layout includes printing on the inside of the cover (“conditional flyleaf”), please indicate this in the Configurator when placing your order.
• Text on the spine — 150 UAH + 15 UAH for each additional one.
• Spine filling — 20 UAH + 2 UAH for each additional one.
• Colored ribbon — 40 UAH/copy. Colored ribbon bookmark.

7. Important notes

• We do not recommend making brochures/magazines with staples if they have a large number of pages. Paper has a certain thickness, so after cutting, the margins on the central pages will be smaller than on the outer pages. You need to take into account the page offset, or make the margins larger everywhere so that the difference in margins is not very noticeable.
• The trim is 3-5 mm from the edges of the printed layout, so keep this in mind when placing important elements, text, or images.
• All printed products are subject to a margin of error of 1-2 mm during printing and trimming.
• Spiral-bound notebooks are not trimmed and have the following dimensions:
   A5 – 148x210mm
   B5 – 175x250mm
   A4 – 210x297mm
  Please note that spiral notebooks will have white margins, as printers have a non-printable area of 2-5 mm. If you need notebooks with full-bleed images, select Original size.
• The front side can only be aligned with the back side by rotating it relative to the vertical axis.

8. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DESIGN OF YOUR PUBLICATION

If you need an ISBN code, please note that it takes about a week to assign a code. The cost of the service is 2,100 hryvnia. For print runs of more than 100 copies, it is free of charge. Eight additional copies must be added to the print run, which we send to libraries ourselves at the request of the Book Chamber.
Technical pages, designed in accordance with standards, will be added to the layout. Along with the ISBN code, a barcode and UDC are assigned. We design the technical pages ourselves. What you need to provide:

1. A file with an annotation (no more than half a page) and the full name of the author of the book.
2. A file of the book containing:
   the first title page;
   the second page — blank (we place the annotation and other information about the book and author on it).
3. The book must have the correct page numbering:
   page 1 — title page,
   page 2 — blank,
   page 3 — the beginning of your text.
